ICSOS Young Scientist Prize
The ICSOS Young Scientist Prize, worth US$1000, will be awarded to a current or recent PhD student (or equivalent) in the field of surface and interface structure. The thesis should be not older than three years. The work is to be presented at ICSOS-9
Application:
The application must be accompanied by one complete paper that has been submitted, or is about to be submitted, to a journal that includes surface structure in its subject area. The application should include a signed statement by the student's supervisor, certifying that the submitted work is or was part of the PhD project, describing the student's level and quality of contributions, and giving the (past or expected) PhD award date. The application should also propose a citation. The application must be submitted together with the abstract, by the abstract submission deadline, and should otherwise follow the abstract submission rules.
The applicant should register normally, submitting his/her paper’s abstract. Additionally, he/she should send, by e-mail, a PDF file containing the complete paper to icsos9@ufba.br, mentioning PAPER SUBMITTED TO THE ICSOS YOUNG SCIENTIST PRIZE in the message’s subject. The supervisor’s letter can be sent either as an e-mail to the above address or by FAX to + 55 71 3283 6606.
The abstract submission deadline for the Young Scientist Prize is 9 March 2008.
Selection Process:
Using the submitted applications and papers, an ICSOS committee shall preselect a small group of candidates before the ICSOS-9 meeting. The final selection will be based on discussions with the candidates and poster viewing during the ICSOS meeting. The award will be announced and the prize given during the ICSOS-9 meeting.
Limited support will be available for candidates who have been preselected by the ICSOS committee for the final decision during the conference.
